Let’s Get to know #GraceinGreenville

Welcome everyone! My name is Grace Ratliff and I am beyond excited to be one of the social media interns for this summer.

(Yes, this is one of my senior pictures and yes that is the last documented picture I have of just myself, whoops)

As my first blog post of the year, I thought I would share a little bit about myself. Now, if you want to know my major, hometown and all that stuff, head on over to the @FUAdmission Instagram page (shameless plug). I thought it would be fun and interesting to get to know each other on a more personal level…

So here are 11 weird and random tidbits of information about me. And remember its alright to laugh, ’cause some of these are pretty embarrassing…

1. I had braces for 5 years

Yeah…it was just as awful as it sounds. I had them on from summer before 5th grade and got them off summer before sophomore year of high school. Middle school was rough and you best believe I was rocking the no-teeth-smile that we all look back on and immediately regret.

2. When I was 3 years old I sang karaoke to Goodbye Earl and have never been that bold or spontaneous since

I really don’t know what came over me. It was during our annual family beach trip to Oak Island, NC and there use to be a pier that had a restaurant and on the weekends they had karaoke nights.  I don’t remember it that well but I do remember the lady telling me to look at the monitor if I lost my place in the song and I told her I couldn’t read yet…cause well I was 3.

3. I was born without wisdom teeth

I highly enjoy this. I mean I’ve seen how messed up some people are after that surgery. However, unlimited milkshakes doesn’t sound too terrible now that I think about it.

4. I’ve had 2 hamsters in my lifetime both named Kenny Chesney

My obsession for Kenny Chesney goes way beyond this. I rocked a puka shell necklace for most of my childhood, I saw him in concert when I was 5, and I cried when he married Renee Zellweger. The love is real people.

5. My mom and I have matching cars

We both have Kia Souls that are the same color and same model. The only way that we can tell them apart is by the tassels we have hanging from our rearview mirrors. Hers is blue and mine is pink. Side-note, this picture was taken at Fall for Furman my senior year, #rolldins IMG_3162

6. I tell people I’m allergic to cats so that they will put them up when I come to their house

I’m not proud of this but y’all I just really don’t like cats…

7. I love golden retrievers so much that I asked for one for college graduation

What? There is nothing wrong with asking in advance…3 years in advance to be exact. I’m already so excited, I almost ordered a collar the other day, I must be stopped.

8. I was so bad at basketball they wouldn’t even let me play on the church league

What, I have astigmatism…sports are hard for me, alright.

9. I learned how to Moonwalk the other day and I’ve never been more proud of myself

I’ve been wanting to know how to moonwalk for FOREVER and then all my dreams came true!!! For a proof, head on over to @Furman_Dance_Company on Instagram for a super cool video (another shameless plug)

10. I still sleep with my baby blanket

Don’t judge. Everyone has their comfort item and mine just happens to be a pink checkered blanket that is beginning to show its age. I rode with it everyday to high school and now it comes along with me on long road trips. Sometimes when I get stressed because of traffic, I drape it over my head and look like the Virgin Mary. It’s very soothing.

11. My longest lasting job was being the Chick-fil-A cow

And not just any cow, I was the Baby Cow. The ladies in the kitchen called me “Babylicious”. The highlight of this job was when I was in middle school I choreographed a cow dance and performed it for Dan Cathy, the COO of the company. He’s the little bald headed man in the bottom lefthand corner. Very sweet man, offered me a job to choreograph a dance for a commercial, so I’m kinda a big deal.
