Leaving Furman can be an exciting time on occasion. You get to see your dog, sleep in your own bed, catch up with old friends, and just unwind for a few days. Yet, every time I always miss Furman, always want to come back, and find myself longing for the beautiful campus once more. Here are four things you’ll miss when you go home over breaks:
Yes, you heard me correctly. You’ll miss the food. Don’t get me wrong, there ain’t nothin’ like mama’s home cooked southern meals, but the Dining Hall and Chick-Fil-A just speak to you. More importantly, they offer a wide variety that always pushes your taste buds limits and, even more critical, they have cookies.
Unless you live on a lake, and maybe you do, but you’ll most likely find yourself missing the aesthetic side of campus when you go home. Nothing beats walks along the lake, eating next to the lake, and all around living near a lake. Also, don’t forget the fountains and the trees, because you can’t beat those either.
Things To Do
Going home means, well, Netflix. That’s about it. You’re quickly going to realize you miss the clubs and organizations, downtown Greenville, Travelers Rest, and all the other things you can do to make you feel social, instead of Netflix asking you if you’re still watching because of course you are.
The Nitty-Gritty Details
When you’re home, there’s no notifications to your email that you have mail, no one to refill the printers with ink or unjam them when someone makes a mistake. Even more unfortunately, there’s no writing lab, no free and reliable wi-fi, and especially no bookstore to quickly purchase the things you run out of seemingly all too often. There’s just a lot you come to rely on that isn’t a thing outside the gates of Furman.
