Greenville is one of the artsiest cities I’ve ever seen and no artsy city is complete without a million indie coffee shops. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that there’s tons of coffee spots close to Furman, if you’re ever in the mood to escape campus for an hour or two for a change of scenery. As nice as Starbucks is, nothing really compares to the atmosphere of a locally owned coffee shop. So, as your friendly neighborhood coffee aficionado, here are some of my favorite coffeeshops in the area!
The Village Grind
I’m slowly on my way to becoming a regular here and for good reason. The Village Grind is an adorable and quiet place with fantastic coffee. Though it’s a little bit of a journey from campus (about a 20 minute drive), it’s completely worth it. Plus, it’s directly next door to Golden Brown & Delicious, so you can get your coffee and your lunch in one go. My go-to order from here is the rose cardamum latte and a chocolate scone!
This one is pretty famous–every Furman student knows and loves Tandem. But where else are you going to find quality coffee AND quality crepes? And with everything in whites and yellows, it’s definitely a great spot if you’re into instagramming your food (which I am!). My go to order here is a banana & nutella crepe with a vanilla latte, though they also have great iced coffee and savory crepes!
Located in downtown Greenville (across the street from a parking garage that’s free on weekends!), this one is so much more than just a coffee shop. As this one is open late at night, it also functions as a theatre of sorts. It has regular open mic nights, poetry slams, and other events going on. My go-to order is a caramel vanilla latte with a blueberry muffin!
The coffee on campus is great, but sometimes you just really need the atmosphere of a coffeehouse. There’s nothing quite like sitting in a cafe with your laptop and a latte and getting some work done while you relax.
I hope everyone has a great fall break!
