Autumn is my absolute favorite time of year. I love everything about it: the leaves changing colors, the hot drinks, bundling up in a sweatshirt and leggings. And there’s really nowhere quite like Furman for this time of year. It’s an amazing time to be here, and there’s tons of way to make the most of it!
1. Join in on the homecoming festivities!
Whether you’re a part of an on-campus group or not, homecoming is one of the best times to mingle with different organizations. Not only do student organizations and Greek organizations come out for homecoming, but several of the majors departments also have tables out. This can be a great way to find out more about all of the groups on campus. And the festivities aren’t limited to the game day tailgate, either! Come by the Furman mall Friday night for a carnival where there’ll be food, a couple rides, and all of the Greek organizations working on their floats!
2. Carve pumpkins!
One of the best ways to make college feel more like home is to break out some of your classic family traditions at school. Carving pumpkins can definitely put you in a festive fall mood, especially if you’re in North Village or the Greenbelt and have a porch to display your creations on. If not, you can always just paint pumpkins too!
3. Check out the cafes on campus!
I think I preach about coffee in every single blog post I write, but guys, there’s so many good places to get a hot drink on campus! Whether you get a latte from Starbucks, or a hot cocoa from The Library Cafe, or even just a quick coffee from the DH, there’s nothing like a hot drink to keep you warm when the weather starts changing. I love getting a latte and going for a walk by the lake when it’s cold!
4. Stop by the rose gardens!
The roses are all finally in bloom right now, and it’s kind of breathtaking how beautiful the rose garden is right now. If you’re someone who loves some instagram-worthy nature shots, definitely stop by the garden next to the DH for some truly gorgeous pictures of roses.
5. Go to football games!
College game days are something that everyone should experience at least once. Even if you’re not a sports person, like me, it’s so fun to spend time with your friends and peers. It’s a great way to feel connected with the Furman community!
No matter what you end up doing this fall, take some time to enjoy the amazing views. We’re so lucky to have such a photogenic campus and whether you go apple picking or just walk around the lake, there’s something wonderful to see. Enjoy nature, enjoy your friends, and enjoy homecoming this week!
