Working for Housing As A Student

With college comes the need for money and with the need for money comes the need for a job. There’s plenty of places to work across Furman’s campus, the post office, the student center, the library, as a tutor, the list goes on and on. However, one of the most popular, and by far the most rewarding jobs on campus, is being a Resident Assistant (RA) or a First Year Academic Advisor (FRAD).

Working for Housing provides you with an opportunity to really make an impact on the lives of your residents. Working with Freshmen helps you shape the way they interact with college, ensure they find their places to fit in, and help them become involved across campus. If you work with Sophomores or upperclassmen, you have the chance to watch them grow, explore, and eventually move on to the next phase of their lives.

In addition, working for Housing provides you with professional experience you can take almost anywhere else. Supervising, emergency management, profession and diversity training, are all important resumé builders you can take into your future career with you.

There’s all sorts of funny Housing Staff memes and CollegeHumor videos out there, and they may be mostly true. However, being a member of Housing Staff can also serve to inspire, change lives, and make the college experience better for so many. In addition, you’ll make a ton of new friends and memories you can carry with you throughout your Furman experience and your life as well.
