Yes, I’m talking about the basketball band just in case you didn’t know.
Basketball band is the perfect way to continue your love for music while not having to march or sweat in the blistering sun after marching band season concludes towards the end of the fall semester.
Each fall, any music student who plays a wind instrument can apply to participate in the basketball band. This year, there was an incredibly high number of applicants and they accepted everyone. That means that we have a huge basketball band, but not everyone can attend SoCon in the spring. If you are able to go to SoCon, you get to travel with the band, stay in a hotel, and cheer on the basketball team each day through plenty of games. It is the best way to kick off Spring Break!
The basketball band does not attend all of the home games, but we are there to cheer on the team and keep the morale high.
Here are the games that we will be attending this season in Timmons Arena:
An incentive to being in the basketball band is that for each game you play for, you get $10. By the end of the season, you could walk away with $150. It’s not much, but if you were to go to watch the games in the student section anyways, you might as well get paid for doing something you enjoy while having a good time with your friends.
It is a blessing that Furman provides so many opportunities for students to participate in a wide variety of music activities. Basketball band allows students to express love and passion for music, take a study break, watch the game, and participate in making music as well.
