Where Do Students Go To Get Off Campus For FOOD?

With classes, extracurricular activities, and internships, life at Furman can get a little overwhelming. It’s important to make that extra time in your schedule to get off campus and escape the ‘Furman Bubble,’ especially when it comes to exploring new food options. Don’t get me wrong, the Furman Dining services are fantastic, but it’s fun to try affordable and delicious places to eat within close proximity off campus.

So… you may be asking, “Where do Furman students go to get off campus for FOOD?” Let me tell you about the three most popular places that students go for a bite to eat.

COOKOUT

It’s the go-to place for all Furman students, especially for a late night treat. Just a 5 minute drive from campus across the street from the Cherrydale shopping center. A Cookout tray is the perfect study break and best bonding experience with the residents of your hall.

Prior to college, I had never been to Cookout. I highly recommend the peanut butter, chocolate fudge milkshake with bananas. It tastes there is Nutella mixed in a blend of bananas and peanut butter!

SIDEWALL

Sidewall is, by far, the best pizza place in the area. Located in Travelers Rest, Sidewall is perfect for lunch or dinner. For pizza lovers, they have it all! Since it is so popular, I recommend getting there before the prime dinner time or you will run into a long wait time.

Sidewall is also a great place to bring your family when they are visiting town. I promise that it won’t disappoint. I highly recommend the bread sticks, the seasonal salads, and the meatball pizza. Oh, and if you’re still hungry after all of that, the homemade ice cream is always good decision.

TANDEM

Tandem is the perfect place for breakfast/lunch whether you’re craving something savory or sweet. Tandem is known for its crepes and sustainably sourced coffee selections. It is also located in Travelers Rest, so it’s a quick trip for a delicious meal.

The weekends can get quite busy, so I recommend getting there early or going during the weekdays before your classes. There are a lot of options on the menu and there’s something for everyone.

Be sure to keep these three places in mind when you are in need of a great meal off campus within a 5 minute range of Furman’s campus.
