You can take hard classes and you can take easy classes, but despite the amount of work you have to do for a class, the professor really makes the experience. A good professor can turn a terribly boring subject into a valuable learning experience (and vice versa).
The good news for you guys is that Furman has many really great professors. That doesn’t mean they give you easy A’s or don’t give you homework. It does mean they’re dedicated to your educational and personal success.
Some of the hardest classes I’ve taken have been taught by the best professors I’ve had. They take the time to get to know you and your strengths and even your professional goals. Some of my professors have set me up with contacts in my aspiring career field or they’ve told me the best career and educational path I can take to get there.
Your academic advisor even helps you formulate your classes toward your grad school or post-grad career plans! Thus, the easiest professor isn’t always the best one. Good professors challenge you but also understand all the other things you’re dealing with as a student. They get to know you personally and work with you toward your personal goals.
Furman does a great job of finding professors like these. When departments hire new faculty, they even have students sit in on lectures given by the prospective hires to make sure students benefit from their teaching style. This is an aspect of Furman that goes above and beyond other universities for the benefit of its students.
