Mom, I Have a Feeling We’re Not at Furman anymore…

*answers a phone call from mom*

“Don’t worry mom, I am only a couple hours from campus. I am just whitewater rafting, I’ll call you later!”

Greenville is a great place to explore but there are a few surrounding cities that offer great adventures and experiences!

For those who like an outdoor adventure, I recommend the U.S. National Whitewater Center. This facility is roughly 2 hours away from campus. Activities include whitewater rafting, flatwater activities (such as paddle boarding and kayaking), climbing, zip lines, ropes, and jumps. An adult one-day pass is $59.00 and a single activity pass is $25.00.

AshIf you’re interested in some unique food, Asheville, North Carolina has some great options! Three delicious restaurants in Ashville include Curate, Sunny Point Café and Sierra Nevada Brewery and Taproom. Curate has a Mediterranean and Spanish cuisine with great service and enjoyable atmosphere. Sunny Point Café serves American fare for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. is a large brewery that offers guided tours as well as self-guided tours for all ages (They also offer tastings for those who are 21). Sierra Nevada also has a taproom, which is their restaurant that provides farm-to-table food paired by a great atmosphere. All of these restaurants offer mid-range priced food.

If you have an itch to rally around professional sports, Atlanta is a great stop for you! They have four professional sports teams. The Atlanta Braves is ATL’s baseball team–they play ball at the SunTrust Stadium. The Atlanta Falcons is the pro football team and Atlanta United FC is the soccer team. Both teams play in the Mercedes Benz Stadium in downtown ATL. For the basketball fans, the Atlanta Dream (WNBA) competes at the McCamish Pavillion and the Atlanta Hawks (NBA) play at the State Farm Arena. All of these sporting events sit a little over two and a half hours away from campus.

Whatever your preference for fun may be, I encourage searching the surrounding cities. They offer experiences that may not be found in Greenville. With that being said, Greenville is conveniently juxtaposed to all of these fun places!
