Internships Are More Than Just Coffee Runs

“At Furman, internships are considered a part of the academic learning process. You’ll use your internship to gain experience by applying your classroom experiences and pursuing your interests.”

Internships are a very popular topic on Furman’s campus. For many internships can seem intimidating while for others it is a stepping stone in their college career. Either way, the Furman internship office wants to help!

It starts with a simple visit to the office in the Trone Student Center. After having a consultation, the application and selection process begins. The internship office will help every step of the way, just ask! The internship office even offers funding that can be applied for as well as academic credit towards your curriculum.

This past summer, I interned with CBS Sports and traveled with the PGA Tour to learn and gain exposure in the world of broadcast television. Though I did not go through the internship office to get this opportunity, it was definitely the Furman Advantage! I gained this position through a Furman Alum, Dottie Pepper. She was a Furman student-athlete who went on to pursue professional golf and later professional broadcasting. Furthermore, as a communication major and college golfer myself, this is the path I also want to follow. Getting to experience both golf and broadcasting at the highest level was incredible and unbelievable exposure.

So, use your resources and connections whether it be through the internship office or Furman connections!
