The Furman Language

Me the first time someone asked me if I wanted to go to the Pden.

If you have been on Furman’s campus, you have probably heard someone say some weird jumble of letters and been like, “what the heck does that mean?” Well, I am going to give you some insight into the language Furman students use every day.

Let’s start with the easy ones.

This is the back of the DH! You have a great view of the lake of you sit outside right here:)

DH: Dining Hall, PDen: PalaDen (the food court where Chick-fil-a and Moe’s are), and Lib: just short for the library. If you are new to Furman, I would assume you have a good chance of figuring these things out on your own. But just in case, that’s what they mean.

Here is when it might get confusing if you don’t go here.

FUPO: Furman University Police Officers, FDOC: First Day of Class, LDOC: Last Day of Class, FUSAB: Furman University Student Activities Board (you will hear this one a lot because they plan fun things for students), RA: Resident Assistant, FRAD: First Year Advisor (I couldn’t tell you who came up with this but it doesn’t make sense), DT: Downtown (Greenville), and TR: Traveler’s Rest.

Those are all the acronyms I can think of right now so hopefully they can be helpful if you are planning to come to Furman anytime soon!
