Study Rooms in the Library. Sometimes the library can seem stressful when you have a lot of work to do. However, when you are able to snag a study room, or book one in advance (I never do bc #procrastination), it can be a great way to get some studying in and/or finish homework. Study rooms can be good for when you need to be secluded and really focused but they’re also perfect for group projects!
The Top Porch of Trone. My friends and I enjoy studying on the porch on top of the Trone Student Center because it is nice, secluded, and has a great view of the lake. There’s never too many people up there and it is the perfect way to enjoy a nice day while also fitting in some homework!
The Lounges in Residence Halls. These lounges are perfect for studying. There are plenty of chairs and tables and there’s also couches and comfy chairs if you were going for more of a relaxed study session. I like going to the lounges because when it is cold and dark outside, who wants to walk to the lib? Not me, so I just go to the lounge. You will usually see someone you know there or it’s also a great place to meet a study buddy!
Studying Off Campus!
The Village Grind. This ~aesthetically pleasing~ coffee shop is a big hit among Furman students. With a very relaxing vibe and the smell of coffee brewing, it is easy to see why students love it so much. The Village Grind is only about 15 minutes away from Furman and is a pleasant place to work on homework. But, if you’re like one of my friends, you can stay there for six hours to write an essay due the next day!! (P.S. this area is a cute place to take pics) (if you wanted to know)
Spill the Beans. Yes! Another coffee shop! Shocking! Spill the beans is also in downtown Greenville a little farther down than where Methodical is located. Spill the beans, I think, is more of a late afternoon to nighttime place to study. They have ice cream!! and coffee!! This coffee shop is bigger than the others and generally has a bit more people. It is also a good place to have group meetings or work on a project if all the members are wanting to go off campus for a bit!
(I’m not sponsored by Greenville coffee shops but I should be.) Methodical is located in downtown Greenville and is also only 15 minutes away from Furman. This coffee shop is also quite laid back and is definitely somewhere I frequently go to study. There is also an upstairs area which is usually where I sit to do work. I usually go with a couple friends and then grab dinner somewhere downtown after we finish homework!
PSA: All three of these places are also fun to go to when you aren’t studying too!! Great places for chatting with friends or just to stop in for a quick latte!!
