A Finals Survival Guide

There are only two more class days until LDOC (Last Day of Classes)! Wow, time has really flown by. While it is oh-so-exciting that summer is just around the corner, we have to make it over the hurdle that is finals.

At Furman and most college campuses, finals means lots of coffee, late nights, large stacks of review materials, papers, and tests. However, believe it or not, there is a way to survive during finals. Just follow these four steps, and you should be alright!

1. Do not drink more than two cups of coffee each day.

Finals can be stressful, I know. BUT that does not mean that caffeine will always help. I love coffee as much as the next girl, but I promise you, more than two per day can get you jittery, which makes sitting still and studying even more of a challenge. Stick to two, you will be thankful you did.

2. Find a table & stick with it.

Each section of JBD (James B. Duke Library) has an unwritten code for how loud you can be there, if you can eat, and whether approaching someone with a question or to socialize is okay. Personally, the front right section of the library is my favorite. You can find me at a table up agains the windows just about any day of the week. Sticking to the same table where you feel comfortable makes studying easier, but remember that the library fills up quickly during finals, so you may have to get there early to get your favorite spot!

3. Don’t forget to eat well!

During finals it is incredibly easy to grab quick food and snacks on the go so too much of your time is not taken up by eating. However, make sure to mix in food that is actually substantial because it will catch up to you as the days go by. Eat food that will give you energy and keep you full. By the last day, you’ll be so thankful you did.

4. HEADPHONES

If you’re anything like me and you get distracted by noise or have a tendency to want to talk, get a good pair of headphones and keep them in your backpack. When it is time to get in the zone, put them on, press play on your favorite music, and you will tune everything else out. The library is especially busy during finals, so there are more distractions than your average week. Headphones will tune all the distractions out and you will be focused on your studying. Headphones are a library must have. Double check your backpack before you head out.

Best of luck to everyone this week! Summer is in sight!
