Hi everyone! My name is Libby Mulligan, and I am super excited to share my FU stories with all of you! This summer as a summer intern in the Admissions Office, I will be posting a bunch of blogs in addition to sharing stories on the FU Admission Instagram. In this first post, I thought I would tell you a bit about me and my life at Furman. Let’s get started!

As a little background … I am from Bethesda, MD which is right outside of Washington, D.C. Currently, I am in Northern Michigan on the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan where I live in the summers! I am a pretty social person and love to keep life spontaneous with adventures and fun times with friends. I have a crazy fun, one-year-old golden retriever named Finnegan who keeps life exciting and messy. In my free time, I love to bake everything from birthday cakes to French eclairs and enjoying the outdoors, especially hiking with my family and friends!
Big sister Catie who just graduated college and little brother Finnegan! The birthday cake I made for my 20th birthday during quarantine!
Some fun facts about me: I enjoy everything from rock climbing to watercolor painting; I love chocolate and all things sweets; I love watching Wheel of Fortune (yes I know, grandma); and my go-to snacks are goldfish and sour patch kids!
Now to the good stuff – my life at Furman! I am a rising junior (class of 2022 woohoo!). It is absolutely crazy to think that I am half-way done with college. When people say college goes by in a blink of an eye, you are going to think no way! BUT let me tell you it is TRUE! I am a Communication Studies and Educational Studies double major. If you ask me what I want to do in life, I would tell you that it changes every day! I can see myself working in strategic communications, teaching kindergarten, owning my own bakery, or even working in college admissions like I am this summer!

Head right near campus!
I am involved in a bunch of different organizations on campus. Not knowing a single person at Furman prior to coming, I definitely found that joining clubs and organizations was a great way to meet both people in my grade and upperclassmen. I am currently the Special Event Chair for FUSAB (Furman University Student Activities Board… chandz!), a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority, a participant in RUF (Reformed University Fellowship), and the Vice President of Recruitment for Admissions Ambassadors. I was set to go on a MayX trip to Copenhagen this past spring but alas it was canceled due to COVID.

Some of my favorite Furman things and memories center around food and friends. I love the infamous, and equally delicious, DH cookies and ice cream, but also love to head to downtown Greenville or Travelers Rest (otherwise known as TR) for a fun dinner with friends. The city of Greenville is beautiful and contains so many amazing restaurants, shops, and outdoor recreation opportunities. Some of my favorite restaurants in the area would have to be Sushi Yama in TR or Nosedive and Cantina 76 in Greenville. I highly recommend taking time on the weekends to explore all that Greenville and Travelers Rest have to offer!
Had an amazing time showing my best friends around my hometown this past spring break! Missing them so much right now!
I hope you enjoyed reading my first blog and getting to know a little bit about me and my life at Furman. Before I wrap up, I have a few last words for those who are just getting started on their college adventures. Have fun and embrace all the new opportunities in your path. Time flies, so get involved in organizations, make time to grab a meal with a new classmate, and sign up for a club to try something new! If you ever have any questions about Furman, I am more than happy to connect via email (emulligan@furman.edu)! Have a great day!
